Is there any chance of SMSTrans working through VARPC. It accesses a modem directly, so I am guessing it can't, but does anyone know any different? Does it make any differenc if an internal or external modem is used?

If SMSTrans wants to directly drive the modem then it won't work, as there is no modem seen by RISC OS. You could still send SMS messages using one of the websites that offer this feature.
