Hi, I installed my copy of TBAFS on VA 1.4 and it gives an error "Abort on transfer xyz" when I double click on it.
Has anyone out there any ideas. :?:

I think that this is something to do with the copy protection in the TBAFS module. The read only version !TBAFSrd works without any difficulties (although you can't write to the archives!). I tried installing the full version under previous versions of VA and couldn't get the disc images to be recognised. In a flash of inspiration I then tried installing it on an old A310 (which didn't have an ID built in) and then copying it across to VA, but then got the "Abort on data transfer" error. You get the same message on VA 1.4 installing !TBAFS directly from the original disc, and it seems to occur some way into the installation process. Unless some kind person (??the author of TBAFS) has a way of modfying the copy protection, we're stuck with read only archives..

I have now found my original copy of TBAFS. Perhaps
we will be able to do something about the "Abort
on Data Transfer" error.

I have contacted the author who is no longer in business but who says
that they have not supported the software for nearly 3 years following the
collapse of Acorn Computers, and his own Risc PC has failed, so he can't
take a look at the programming. He confirmed that TBAFS ran correctly
on the A5000.
He thinks that the most likely cause of the problem is that the emulator is
not exactly reproducing the A5000. The problem should therefore be
addressed to the producers of the emulator, who should know where it
does not literally work exactly like the A5000. The may be able to come
up with a fix or work around.

Incidentally I originally reported the error as "Abort on data transfer" but now realise that it is "address exception at &xyz"

Tracing the code just before the address exception, TBAFS calls FileCore_DescribeDisc which suggests it wants to be run from a filecore filesystem. HostFS is not a filecore filesystem. If you try running it from RamFS, it gets as far as asking for its original install disk.

Whether FileCore_DescribeDisc should crash when given a non-filecore disc is another matter...

Just as a matter of interest, I've tried using the IDE hard disc image mentioned in the Sibelius thread. As Graeme mentioned, the software then gets as far as asking for the original disc, which is in the floppy drive. I still think that it's got something to do with the copy protection. Rats....

Has there been any progress with the compatibility of TBAFS & VA topic (e.g. can it now work on the VA RiscPC) ?

I'd imagine it's the same situation, it needs a Filecore filing system present to install or it will crash. TBAFSrd appears to work so I'd guess TBAFS will if it can be installed.
