Last week I purchased and installed VA 1.4 as an up-grade to 1.3.

I have two problems with Applications, which I had hoped would be solved by the new direct Acorn floppy application:

1. With Impression Style, installed from the original Discs, I receive the Error Message "This copy of Style is corrupt. Please re-instal it".

I encountered this self same problem on my RiscPC when, I think, I installed later Applications which up-dated the "System" file. Re-installing Style then workde OK. It does not on VA 1.4.

Any ideas?

2. With Masterfile I cannot print directly, receiving the error message "Not open for update". When I raised this with APDL they told me is should not happen - not a lot of use when it does!

Grateful for any views and advice.

David Cooper

This sounds like a corrupted install of !CCShared. Open HardDisc4
and shift double click on !Boot to open it.

Now go into Resources and then Shift double click on !System.
Now delete !CCShared and also delete CMYKPal. Now
re-install from the original master discs.

This sounds like MasterFile is trying to directly print to the
parallel port which dosen't exist. Masterfile does this when
printing using the "preview" printing mehtod. You need to
print using the RISC OS Printer drivers.

However some old versions of Masterfile do not use the
RISC OS printer drivers and these won't work, so you will
need to contact APDL for an upgrade.

Impression Style needs to use the !System folder that it "saw" when it was installed. Any changes in this folder can produce the corrupt message that you see. Usually a re-install will cure it but sometimes it needs you to delete the !CChared folder as suggested. Just be aware that any changes to the contents of !System can upset !Style. !CCshared is a good place to start. Installing other C/Concepts products eg Artworks after !Style can also produce these problem. Install Artworks first?

Try deleting/moving/renaming !CCshared as suggested, then re-intalling !Style.

I have found that the "corrupt" message can re-appear for no apparent reason and a re-install usually cures it but often not on the first re-install. Try it again.

There was an option from C/Concepts to upgrade to an unprotected version of Impression Publisher at relatively little cost. Might be an option to try.
