Hi
I've recently networked my RPC and a WinXP laptop which has VRPC installed. I think I've correctly followed the instructions to allow the two RISCOS systems to share files, but the VRPC claims that there are no shared drives available, even though I've shared a directory on the RPC. The RPC shows the VRPC 'drive', but when I click on the iconbar VRPC icon, after showing a descending hourglass countdown twice, a message shows saying that 'The machine containing the shared disc does not respond'. I can ping the RPC from the VRPC and I can ping the WinXP laptop from the RPC. Any thoughts?
Thanks
Richard

Make sure that your Windows firewall hasn't blocked anything it shouldn't have. Also make sure you are running the latest Version of the VA internet module (6.11).
Can the "real" machine see a folder that has been shared by VRPC?

Thanks for your reply Aaron. I use Norton for the firewall, but it made no difference whether it was on or off. And my internet module was already 6.11
I solved it in the end when I remembered I had deleted a couple of files from the boot sequence when I didn't have a network connection but couldn't stop Share loading on boot-up. I've reinstalled VRPC and all is now working brilliantly.
One new question which arises - and this may not be the correct forum as it's to do with the 'real' RPC end of the link - is it possible to share only one directory from a drive rather than the whole drive? I can't find anything on this in the RISC OS 3 or 4 User Guides. (RISCOS 4.02)
Thanks
Richard

Yes, you can share any directory on a drive, rather than the whole drive. The command is
*Share
You can get help on this command by perssing F12 and typing
*Help Share
As an example here is a share command to share a directory called Fred as read only from the RiscPC.
*Share ADFS::Harddisc4.$.Fred -readonly

Thanks Aaron; very helpful as always... I wonder why this isn't in the RISCOS User Guides...?

Networking is covered in section 8 of the RISC OS user guide.
