Yes, this is all very good, but the installer assumes the absolute paths to the updated files, which results in a big mess on my system. Assuming the absolute paths doesn't seem very RISC OSey as it means no-one can ever move their programs around. I know VRPC is a Windows programs, but surely we don't have to impose the restrictions of Windows on our VRPCs?
Is the installer just replacing files on HostFS? If so, couldn't it be done more sensibly from within RISC OS?
Or, at the very least, the installer should say in big writing that it will mess stuff up if you've chosen to re-arrange your hard drive.
Thanks,
Adam

All the upgrades are run under Windows as a matter of policy. For the vast majority of our users it's much easier and less prone to problems. As you have pointed out however if a user moves things around then the upgrades may well fail. If you can come up with a solution to this then I will be delighted as I can't find one :(

Well, as I mentioned, I think the installer should warn you about what it's going to do rather than just liberally spreading random files around my hard drive and generate a whole ream of errors in the installer window :(
As for an overall solution, that would depend on what's being updated I guess. Are the updates just updates to specific programs? In which case isn't it the responsibility of the respective authors to issue updates in whatever (RISC OS) manner they normally use?
Thanks,
Adam

In this instance the upgrade fixes problems with the disc build, so it isn't the authors responsibility, it's ours. To be honest I'm not sure at what CD number the faults were introduced. The original master VRPC-Adjust build is fine, but the production ones went wrong at some point.
The errors from the installer are just reports that it couldn't find, and hence couldn't delete, duff files.
