I'm trying to instal Impression Publisher on a RisCube as part of the process of retiring my elderly Risc PC. This involves seven floppies. I have prepared Acorn Disc Images of these and have a :1 floppy on the icon bar. Following the instructions in the Manual I can load the image of disc 1 into the floppy and begin the process. However, after loading disc image 2 the process can't be continued. It seems as though the installation program loaded from disc 1 is no longer running or is no longer in memory. Is it possible to do a multi-disc installation in this way? And, of course, if so, how?

In case somebody asks, I believe that Publisher stops working if it is simply transfered to another location, even on the same disc.

Thanks in advance,

Ralph

AFAIK, it is possible to move an existing Impression Publisher installation from one machine to VirtualRPC, in two stages, as follows (no need to use the floppies):

a. Copy the main !Publisher directory from your RiscPC to VirtualRPC, as-is. (It's usually in the Apps folder.)

b. Copy the !CCShared folder contained within !System on the source machine into HardDisc4.!Boot.Resources.!System on the VirtualRPC installation.

!CCShared contains the various modules required by Publisher and, I think, Artworks etc (i.e. modules common to Computer Concepts applications).

Close down and restart VirtualRPC and Publisher should then start up OK. HTH.

That advice is fairly sound, except that a stage has been missed out.

As well as copying !CCShared from one !System folder to another you also need to copy the CMYKPal file - without this Impression will baulk and as to be re-installed.

Make sure that both !CCShared and CMYKPal are copied over first.
Then copy over the main Impression app
Now shutdown and restart RISC OS
Double click on Impression and it should load without complaint

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the replies. I have now successfully made the transfer. Excellent!

Was my memory about Publisher objecting to being moved to another location wrong? I seem to remember having to reinstal after having a new hard disc some years ago.

Thanks again,

Ralph

I suspect that you weren't aware of !CCshared and CMYKPal a few years ago - hence the need to re-install.
