In installing my copy of !Thump onto new PC I had to download a System/zip which I saved into the Public folder, then opened it on the VRPC in a different filing window. This was to introduce the CLib module (I think). The ReadMe advised me to double-click on the !SysMerge file rather than through the !Boot system method. I reckon I have done this, and now I cannot delete the System/zip file from the Public or from anywhere else. What am I missing here? Thump is now working fine, indicating that it has picked up the CLib that it was missing.

Do you get any error message(s) when you try to delete the System/zip file?

When you say you can't delete it from Public "or from anywhere else", does that include Windows?

The usual wrinkle if you can't delete something under RISC OS is to go to Windows, seek out the problem object using Windows Explorer, then right-click on it and select Delete. If it still won't delete, select Properties, make sure the Read-only box is UNticked, and try again.

Yes, the file is open, being used by some program (vrpc?)

Thanks, Mike, tried that but still no luck.

And when in vrpc I use Close Files program, it says there are no open files. Weird!

OK, two more things you could try (if not already done).

- Close down VirtualRPC, then try to delete the offender under Windows. (Any error message?)

- Open up the zip file under Windows (VirtualRPC NOT running), then attempt to delete each individual file. We've sometimes had the situation whereby an ordinary or zipped folder could not be deleted but, if the contents are deleted one by one, the now-empty folder could then be deleted.

Yes, thanks Mike. As they say on Millionaire, that's the solution I was about to try myself.
This worked perfectly, but now !Thump doesn't work because it can't find Shared C Lib Module. So I will try downloading again, and make sure I don't open the System file while it is still in the Public folder. Obviously Thump was finding it there and relying on it I guess.

I'll keep you posted on progress.

If not already done, you need to copy the CLib module from the System.zip folder into your !System directory.

AFAICR the full address is !Boot.Resources.!System.310.Modules. (There should already be an [outdated] CLib module in there, in which case it might be advisable to keep a copy of that.)

Then restart VirtualRPC and try Thump.

If OK, then delete the System.zip folder (which may well now delete under RISC OS without generating an error message).

All being well, Thump should now work OK, fingers and eyes crossed.

Thanks for that Geoff and Mike,
Actually, what I had to do in the end was change SharedCLib to CLib in the Run file of Thump, and all was well. I loaded down the Modules package again, and moved it all from the Public folder on vrpc to another one. I'll be able to delete it from there I guess.

As you say, Thump now working perfectly. It all goes to show how hands-on Riscos can be compared with the other beast.

Cheers
