I have a Wacom Artpad from my Risc PC and would like to use it with the VRPC via a Mac iBook running OS X. The latest Mac driver I can find does not work with OS X so I suspect I will not be able to get the pad working with the VRPC.

Does anyone know any better??

The pad might work with VirtualRPC. if it behaves as a mouse. But you will need a driver for Mac OS X. So the answer looks like it's a no, it won't work.

Serial? I very much doubt that your Mac even has a serial port. As such the lack of a driver isn't the real killer, not being able to even plug it in might be a bigger problem :)

I do have a serial to USB cable but am not sure what effect it would have on the setup if I did find a driver for OS X.

It really is very unlikely to work using an adapter cable (which will probably need a Mac OS X driver itself). I strongly suggest buying a replacement that does work with Mac OS X and connects using a USB interface.

After all the pessimism, I have now succeeded!!
I had to load software for the serial/USB cable from an 8cm CDrom, via the RPC as it can't go in the iBook slot loader.
A poster on the mac.hardware newsgroup suggested looking at http://thinkyhead.com/tabletmagic/ for a third party driver for most Wacom tablets.

It now works on the iBook and VRPC. I have not fully tested it and it may benefit from the original Wacom driver software for the RPC if I can find it.

Excellent, I am pleased that you have it working and I am delighted (in this case) to be prooved wrong :)

I don't think you will need the RISC OS driver, and it probably wouldn't work anyway as it would expect to address the hardware via the (non existant) RISC OS serial port.
