My VirtualRPC installation has stopped working - it boots up and I get a desktop, but it then seems to freeze. It does not respond to any mouse clicks and the window to mail is being fetch does not appear.

Nothing has changed on the Acorn side. On the Mac, I am now running MobileME, I have updated to Itunes and changed network settings.

Any advice on how I can debug/fix?

That's a new one on me...

First thing - shut down and re-start the Mac.
If that doesn't help then...

When VRPC freezes try pressing ALT ENTER. If the Window/Full screen switching works OK then VRPC is running and RISC OS has stopped. If the switching doesn't work then VRPC has stopped. If this is the case we need to investigate. If ALT ENTER switching does work then press 'ALT BREAK' (can be found from the menu along the top - the Mac keypresses are in the manual - I'm not near a Mac at the mo) and see if a RISC OS task has stuck.

Atl+break seems to do the trick - it gives me the option to kill 'Unknown' task, and this let me get in.

The problem seemed to be MPRo- when I click on it, the whole things hangs again. I reinstalled from scratch (deleting !NewsDir and settings in Boot) and it now works. Must have been corrupted somehow and caused system to hang...

Thanks for the excellent advice!

Jolly good - glad that's fixed it (or at least found the culprit).

Strangely enough, my son had exactly the same problem earlier today.

It turned out that I was already logged in when he switched user and loaded VRPC. It appears that VRPC doesn't like two users using it simultaneously (quite reasonably).

It may not be the same cause in your case, but it's a possibility.
