Stability of Riscos Select on Mac VRPC

I am running latest Select on my Mac (which is also running Snow Leopard) and finding it quite often freezes when booting into Select or when doing network operations. Any suggestions on how I might fix this?

I suggest asking RISCOS Ltd - after all RISC OS 6 is their product. What's the version of VirtualRPC you are using?

Its 6.16 and it hangs intermitently. I trekked up to the RISCOS show to ask them and they had no suggestions except to ask you. It seems to particularly effect rebooting into Select or when I use MPro to access emails.

You might be suffering from a known MessengerPro problem. Before shutting down quit MessengerPro from the iconbar. See if this helps with the problem. (MessengerPro has been linked to A9 disc corruption, quitting it before shutting down seems to help). Also can you tell me the version of VirtualRPC you are using (as per my earlier message)?

Since I disabled the power saving option, it seems to have become much more stable on my machine and stopped freezing.

OK - that's interesting - thanks for letting me know.

I will point out (for the sake of completeness) that disabling the power mangement in VRPC can result in the computer running much hotter and potentially, on a machine with marginal cooling, overheating and shuting down.

Since removing LanMan98 from my boot sequence, the stability has much improved.
