I have done this twice now, and the result is that the Mac has a blank screen, and will not respond. I had to close down by pressing the power button.

In fact the restart does not work. The machine is dead. If it's stuck in full screen there's no way to exit the VRPC app.

Not really a problem, as long as you remember not to end in full screen.

I do get the blank screen on a restart but all I need to do here is to press any key and RISC OS restarts as per normal. That is on an iMac, 10.6.7.

The black screen simply means that RISC OS isn't doing anything. Just press ALT and RETURN to flip VirtualRPC into a window. Then close the window.

Tried both of these, and no response at all.

Have to ensure it is in window mode before shutting down.

I'm not sure what's causing the problem, sorry.

On a slightly different subject, could you please check the e-mail adress you use to log into the VirtualAcorn forums. Whenever I reply to one of your messages the forum tries to e-mail you to let you know that the thread has been updated. However the e-mails always bounce :?

Since the forum has several attempts to send I end up with a load of bounce reports in my e-mail (because I'm admin and any problems get sent through to me). Thanks.

And here's an example of the bounce. I have obscured part of your e-mail address:

>Hi. This is the qmail-send program at supanetwork.co.uk.
>I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
>This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

Sorry about that. That email address is now closed, because it was deluged with spam.

I have just tried to update it in the control panel, but it says the new address cannot be used.

Can you stop the forum sending these automatic emails, which I wouldn't want to receive anyway?

The option to receive an e-mail when someone replies to your posts is a user selected option. If you don't want them then hopefully you will be able to untick the option.

Hopefully the option will be related to 'watching' a topic. Here is the text of the e-mail that gets bounced:

It seems now to be solved. I was able to untick the option for emails about posts that I'm following, and I was able to change to my ISP default address, although, curiously enough, not to a gmail one.

Once again, I'm sorry about the bounced emails.

Thanks for sorting out the e-mail bounce. We don't allow the use of gmail and some other 'free' e-mail addreses due to the problem of spammers (and yes, despite operating in a 'niche' market, we do get spammers trying to register on the Forums).

I have had this problem randomly for quite a while, and certainly in my case it will not respond to 'Alt-Enter'. In fact it will not respond to anything Aaron.

I used to have my VRPC boot straight into full screen, but whenever this random failure happened and it sticks at the black blank screen and will not respond to anything, it became annoying requiring shutting down and reboot of the Mac. So now I boot VRPC into a window first, and if it completes O.K. then I change to full screen; but when it fails at the black screen I can now shut it down from the Mac menu.

Whilst talking about 'Alt-Enter' to switch between window mode and full screen, I also have another random failure, and that is occasionally when pressing 'Alt-Enter' instead of switching screen mode, it causes the Mac to totally reboot!

Both these failures are so random, that I have learned to live with them, although they can be really annoying when they happen. Since I have just changed my computers (desk and laptop) I'm waiting to see whether the faults persist on the new machines...
