Hi,
After about on hour of use VA quits randomly, but doesn't display any kind of error.
Is there a log file somewhere that will show why VA is closing down?

Thanks,
Rob.

That's a weird one. I presume this is under OS X Lion. I don't currently have a machine running this, but I'm in the process of, ahem, 'building' a new Mac which I hope to get Lion installed on. There used to be a log facility from the Console app in the Utilities folder, but I don't know if this is still present in OS X Lion.

Thanks Aaron,
I am using OSX Lion, I'll see if that logging facility is still available.

I *think* I've narrowed it down to the RISC OS application !Cretin. I'll run some more tests, and post the results back here.

Thanks for the pointer,
Rob.

Thanks, I'm not familair with !Cretin, although I know it's an IRC client. I'm interested in seeing how it could be causing VirtualRPC to close, especially if there is no 'Are you sure' message prior to the quit.

Doesn't look like Cretin was to bame. VA just closed and Cretin wasn't running.

This message is shown in the Console log;
29/09/2011 07:04:57.460 com.apple.launchd.peruser.501: ([0x0-0x249249].com.yourcompany.VirtualRPC[5778]) Exited abnormally: Broken pipe: 13

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Sorry, I can't think of any advice off the top of my head. But there are a couple of things we could try:

Fire up VirtualRPC and then leave the Mac alone for an hour+ and see if VirtualRPC still crashes.

Test 2

Fire up VirtualRPC, let it boot normally. Then rename HostFS::HardDisc4.$.!Boot as HostFS::HardDisc4.$.Boot
Now quit VirtualRPC.
Launch VirtualRPC again and from the 'green' failed to boot screen go into the desktop.
Now leave the Mac alone for an hour+ and see what happens.

Hopefully this will help us track down if it's something in the !Boot sequence causing the problem.
