I can confirm, after testing, that the 1.40 upgrade breaks mouse support on VA5000 under wine (here, a least). That is, if I install VA5000 and then upgrade it to 1.30, I get a good, working system on my recent wine build (18th Nov 2003 cvs). If I then apply the 1.40 upgrade, the mouse stops working as I desribed earlier - it moves erratically and clicks appear randomly and independent of the actual mouse buttons.

Is this a known problem, is there a solution and what am I missing out on by not running the 1.40 upgrade? This behaviour is not caused by sound - I have that disabled anyway.

The only major difference between 1.3 and 1.4 is that 1.4 uses DirectInput 8 rather than 7. Maybe Wine doesn't support DI8 properly? or more likely I'm not using it properly.

Thanks. At least that explains why it goes wrong - changing DI versions is probably the culprit.

On the VA website, it suggests that there are also some other changes in 1.4 (such as faster window redraws with "Colourcard-style graphics"). Are these available separately, or could I perhaps upgrade to 1.4 and then regress the DI part?

Does VRPC share the use of DI8? If so, that's a disincentive to me to upgrade :(

VRPC also uses DI8.

It currently isn't possible to mix features from different versions.

Ah well - just VA5000 1.30 for me, then.

Thanks
