I've tried something possibly stupid, certainly outside the norm for VA5000. To wit - trying to install it under Wine on Linux. Installing an emulator under another emulator...

Needless to say (perhaps), it didn't work. But the error was a MS C++ library problem:

Is there any chance I'll ever get this working? Or of a Linux version of VA5000 (x86, at least)?

Worked fine for me, I didn't install it under Wine, I just run it from Wine. I know others have got RedSquirrel working under Wine too.

What Windows are you emulating and are you using the included DLLs or a real Windows install? Mine uses my Win98SE partition.

What version of Wine - the source from winehq.org or the Codeweavers RPM? I found the only way to get Wine working properly was to compile it myself (under Mandrake 8.2)

P.S. Wine Is Not an Emulator (it's in the name!)

I have just had help installing A5000 under Wine
and I get the error message
Failed to create primary surface (0x88760078)
Any clues about what's going on?
