Is it at all possible to enable Internet access under Virtual Acorn? Specifically getting it to make use of my LAN card for broadband internet access.

It guess it's possible, looking at the Upgrade to VirtualRPC-SE, also had a mail saying the functionality may be added in the future.

If you need to share / transfer files with a real Acorn just setup a FTP server on your PC, WAR FTP will do, and create an account with a home directory somewhere in your HOSTFS tree. Then you should be able to exchange files, via FTPc on the Arc. Transfer apps in a archive, so you don't loose file types.
