Hi,

I seem to be unable to browse websites properly on VRPC.
I've have installed the latest versions of Fresco, WXL, Oregano1 and 2, Netsurf and Browse.

My success rate has been pretty low.
WebsterXL gives a subscript out of range from Webfetch on a number of sites like www.riscos.com for example and Webfetch also crashes horribly with an internal error on ebay.co.uk and takes down the entire system requiring a reboot of RISC OS.

Fresco on most sites either loads half the page then stops, type 5s or crashes with an internal error and takes down the system like WXL does requiring a reboot of RISC OS.

Oregano 1 won't fetch any pages from the internet at all, neither will Netsurf (latest version).

Browse crashes horribly in the same way as WXL and Fresco on ebay.co.uk and seems generally unstable.

Oregano2 whilst generally being fairly stable has the same problem as the others on Ebay.co.uk.

None of these problems occur on my actual RiscPC.

Where do I start looking for and solving the problem (assuming hopefully that there's only one ;-) ?
I am quite prepared to do a complete reinstall of VirtualRPC if necessary so as to start with a clean slate.

If they are relevant, my PC specs are:
ASUS A7M motherboard
AMD XP1800
512mb RAM
ATi Radeon 7500 graphics
Soundblaster PCI128

Cheers!

We have now fixed this it was caused by two problems.

1. An out of date Internet plugin
2. VRPC-SE detecting the host pc processor speed wrongly

Great!
How do I go about upgrading my version?
I've tried installing the networking upgrade on the site without any change in VRPCs behaviour and I've tried setting the CPU speed manually, also without success.
Cheers!

I assume that means it wasn't you that had the problem then :(

Damn. In that case we have two userw with identical machine, both
that showed the same problem. One machine was fixed by setting the
correct host CPU speed, and updating the Internet plugin.

If you have done both (and installed the latest network upgrade
from our website) then you had better give me a ring so we can
have a look.

Ok,
I've done a fresh install of VRPC on a different drive (D:) and installed only the networking upgrade from the VA website.
Using the Oregano2 demo as supplied to browse ebay.co.uk show the original problem I mentioned earlier.
Oregano2demo doesn't even display the front page before showing an error message:'Internal error, no stack for trap handler' type message.

Also interesting to note is that the title bar of the browser shows
'eBay UK ?UK?ine Marketplace' rather than 'eBay UK - The UK's Online Marketplace' (probably irrelevant but thought I'd mention it)

Clicking 'Cancel' removes O2 from the iconbar.
Attempting to shutdown gives the 'Application may have gone wrong message'
Clicking 'quit' takes me to the VRPC shutdown menu (restart RISCOS or return to Windows)
Clicking return to Windows gives a message from VA Shutdown 'Internal error, abort on data transfer' etc.

Just as a thought for a future feature addition.
On the shutdown menu we have a choice of rebooting RISC OS or Returning to Windows. How about another option that simply shuts down the entire machine from VRPC?

Can't think of anything else to try at the moment.
Will have a further think.
