Just a quick warning to other excited new users of VRPc.

After a day of setting up the look and folders of VRPc I was very pleased except for the mouse.

I have a three button mouse but the middle button didn't seem to work. In an idle moment I noticed on the underside of my mouse it said 'PS/2 Mouse' Ahh! i thought let's try that setting whilst in VRPc. Or course the mouse stopped working altogether.

I tried to sort it out in VRPc - couldn't.

I tried in WindowsXP using Notepad and looking in the models.cfg file and any other - found all the Rom and Ram sting etc. - it fact used this to reset Ram to a total of 64Mbs - but couldn't find mouse type settings.

I tried Windows Explorer - looking inside the VRPc Boot folder - aain no luck.

I decided to uninstall VRPc and start again.

Reinstall VRPc I was surprised to see my alterations were there with the new build.

Checking I noticed that windows marks the VRPc folders as 'Read Only' so when I had 'uninstalled' the bulk of VRPc was still there.

I decided to 'uninstall' again - then reset the folders from 'read only' then manually deleted the whole thing - then I performed a Defrag of the Drive C - then I did a final ew install.

I now loaded Select on top of Risc OS 4 and altered things and generally set the whole thing up.

The middle mouse button is not working but I think a new mouse might sort tha out.

Select doesn't seem to let you read Acorn floppies.

So - beware changing the mouse type :-)

A am still very happy with VRPc - well done.

Regards, Dave C.

Doing a CMOS restore from the VRPC-SE CD would have solved
the problem. The mouse type is stored in the CMOS so that
RISC OS knows what to do when it starts up.

I thought about doing a CMOS restore - but from within VRPs - which I could'nt do 'cause I could'nt move the mouse!

I never thought - or checked that I could do the CMOS restore from outside VRPc never-mind from the CD.

Hope others will take note.

Thanks anyway, Dave C.

The other way out of this would have been to press F12, provided
RISC OS booted without fault and to have re-configured the
mouse type from the command line.
