Hallo @all,
I have question refering access to my CD-Rom-drive(s) using VirtualRPC-SE, cause I only got the message: "CD is faulty" or "Bad parameters".

My equipment: Sony Vaio (P4, XP-home, DVD-Rom, DVD-Writer,....)

Every other things work (including Floppy-drive).

Has anybody some idea :?:

There are a very few CD drives which refuse to work with Virtual Acorn, more correctly they refuse to work with the CDFSSoftATAPI module. There will be a new patch on the website shortly which may, if you're very lucky, offer a fix to this.

Which CD drive is VRPC-SE trying to use?

Have you tried editing the model.cfg file stored in

C:\Program Files\VirtualAcorn\VirtualRPC-SE\Models\ARM7 RISC OS 4(Jit)

Alter the line that says

CDROM = 0

to say

CDROM = 1

This will switch to the 2nd CD drive in the machine and might (fingers crossed work). If not e-mail me and we can go through some other ideas which should get it going.

Dear Aaron,
happy new year and sorry for late answer, I wasn't at home and it would not work! I've changed the line in file, but not positive effect, always same result... :cry:
I have following drives:
Pioneer DVD-ROM DVD-121R
and
Pioneer DVD-RW DVD-106D...

Do you have any additonal ideas?

Dear Aaron,
refering your email in your mail I've tested the VirtualRPC-SE Upgrades and the probem is not gone away. It shows allways message(s): "CD is faulty" or "Bad parameters" according which CD-Rom I use. In one drive according the line in model.cfg ( 1 or 0 ) I can swap the messages and it seems the drive read it, cause it needs some time and you can see the "egg timer" on cursor....
Best regards

It could be that the drives simply don't work with the CDFS version
supplied :-( Best give me a ring so we can try and sort it out.

I had similar problems with a SONY DVD-drive in my PC but these went away after using CDFSSoftATAPI version 1.53 under RiscOS Select. The standard VRPC installation unplugs the ROM version of CDFSSoftATAPI and softloads an older version. This older version might not always work properly with modern fast drives.

@Aaron: I will do it after the hind from fritspolak would not help!
@ fritspolak: where I can find "CDFSSoftATAPI version 1.53 under RiscOS Select"? and how can I including it under "RiscOS"?
Best regards

Well, provided you are subscribed to RiscOS Select and installed the latest version (Release 3i3, version 4.37) you will have it already. But it may be *unplugged by VRPC. By default VRPC softloads an older version (1.25). If you want verion 1.53, you should move this older version from Predesk out of the way and then type *RMReinit CDFSSoftATAPI. The reboot and check that CDFSoftATAPI is no longer unplugged (type *unplug to check).
Type *Help CDFSSoftATAPI to check which version is active now.

Hope this helps,

Regards,
Frits

Dear fritspolak and dear Aaron,
YES! - now it works! I've changed so like fritspolak wrote and I could read from DVD-RW. Then I changed like Aarons suggestion in model.cfg so now I can read CD's from DVD - Rom!
Many thanks to all!
Best regards
