Hi ,
Thanks VirtualAcorn for the new patches and upgrades! My results:
1) The printing problems has now been solved here :-))

2) The higher screenmodes work fine, but only under RO 4.02.
Why does this nor work under Select? As Select is so much nicer in daily use, I can't stand using 4.02 as standard anymore. Will these new screenmodes also become available under Select soon ? I do hope so!

3) The problems with ShareFS under Select are not yet solved, unfortunately :-(
I got no reply from VA to my previous post in this forum about this problem. Any hope for the future?

Many thanks in advance,
Regards,

Frits Polak

I also installed both the patches. Deep screen modes now working nicely thanks. Unfortunately the problems with ShareFS have reappeared. I was having intermittent problems, fixed by a Beta internet module. Now, with either the original or the Beta, the problem is permanent.

During RO boot, a "Not Found" error is reported. The Discs icon appears, but only shows local shares. The remote RPC also only shows it's own local shares.

Opening the local share eventually results in Filer error messages, such as "Filecore in use".

In reply to fritspolak.

The new larger screen modes are for RISC OS 4. ROL are working on
larger video modes for Select (they announced this at the ROL AGM last year).

Someone (I can't remember who) did suggest that there might be a
problem with ShareFS and Select. In the tests I have done it seems
to have worked OK, but I will try again and see what happens.

in the downloads section of the website.

Hi Aaron,

It was me who reported this problem in this forum (Virtual_RPC Support) on December 17th. Please re-read the problem description there.
I also read reports from others having the same problem on the
Acorn newsgroups.

I found a cumbersome and not so reliable workaround by softloading ShareFS 3.44 after having switched off, then on via !Configure (in the network options, which are not hidden when using Select on VRPC) and then shared a directory. As I said this sometimes works, but is not very reliable.

Please advise :-)

Regards,
Frits
