After installing all the updates I now get the "CD-ROM drive not found" message from CDFS filer. I can mount the cd with hostfs but as an ordinary drive, not a cd-rom. The tracks show up as track01/cda with a file type of text. Needless to say I can't play audio discs.
The graphics seem to be a bit quicker, Gems runs more smoothly now.
Cheers, Alan

You need to check which version of CDFSSoftAtapi is getting run. Press F12 and
type
*Help CDFSSoftAtapi
The "correct" one for RISC OS 4 is 1.50. If an earlier one shows up the it's getting softloaded from inside !Boot.Choices.Boot.PreDesk (or possibly from !Boot.Choices.Boot.Tasks).
If nothing comes back or you get a module not found, then go a
*Unplug
To see if the module is unpluged. If it is then
*RMInsert CDFSSoftAtapi
will bring it back. Note that CDFSSoftAtapi is one word with two "S" letters next to each other.

Thanks Aaron. I did the *help but no info was printed. *unplug did unplug some modules, including CDFSSoftAtapi. As a "new" riscos user, I am probably doing something painfully silly. I will do some more searching and let you know how I went.
Regards, Alan

All is resolved now. I think it was the *rminsert command that did it. *help cdfssoftapi prints out the correct values and my cdrom now plays audio!!
Once again, thanks for your help.
Cheers, Alan

Right the module got unplugged - it might be worth keeping an eye on things to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I've just found this thread, which gives the answer to a problem that's been bugging me too. What doesn't seems to have been said is that you have to re-start VRPC for the change to take effect.
Thanks for getting my CDROM back again!
