I have just purchased a new CRT monitor which is easily capable of 1600x1200. When I use the PC (laptop) I can get 1600x1200 at 75Hz.
When I run VARPC although I get 1600x1200 I only get 60Hz, although the mode window says 75Hz.
I have confirmed the timings using the monitors OSD.
Any ideas how to get the same frequency under VARPC as Windows.

What is happening is that Windows has various modes of the same resolution with different frequencies, a lower than expected frequency is being chosen.
If you have a look in the va.cfg file in
C:\Program Files\VirtualAcorn\Vrpc-xxx\
You will see a section like this:
[DirectDrawRenderer]
free_scale = 1
CanChangeMode = 1
Border = 0
TripleBuffer = 0
FrameSkip = 0
AutoWindowResize = 1
FullScreenStartup = 0
MaxRefresh = 75
MinRefresh = 58
Large16bitPalette = 1
Try increasing the value of MinRefresh to get Windows to pick a refresh rate higher than 60 (as you can see the default min value is 58).

Thanks Aaron, I eventually fixed it by configuring VARPC not to change windows screen mode.
