If I try to use the filer to view a blank removable device (I've tried it with SD cards from my camera and a couple of USB sticks) I simply get a "Not found" error message. I can work around this by creating an empty directory on it from the CLI, but it's annoying.
On a similar subject, I don't suppose there'll ever be any chance a drive for such an item won't appear until the device is inserted? I've not much hope for this one, since to HostFS all drives look the same, and it leaves Windows to worry about them being removable etc.

A device needs to have a file or directory on it before HostFS can read it. For most cameras this isn't a problem as the pictures are stored in a sub directory.
We hope to have a HostFS upgrade available at some point which will allow users to mount/dismount drives and to create new HostFS mounts from inside RISC OS.
