Hi,
Could anyone supply a MDF entry for a widescreen LCD (laptop)?
Its native resolution is 1680 x 1050
At present I'm using the 1360 x 768 or 1440 x 900 (supplied)
Hope to provide some benchmarks once I've got everything running.
Thanks
Govind

Find your MDF (Monitor Definiton File)
!Boot.Resources.Configure.Monitors.VirtualAcorn.VRPC-SE
Make a backup of this before continuing
Add the following block of mode definitions somewhere that makes sense.
# 1680 x 1050 (30Hz)
startmode
mode_name:1680 x 1050
x_res:1680
y_res:1050
pixel_rate:54000
h_timings:166,90,96,1680,96,0
v_timings:3,32,0,1050,0,3
sync_pol:0
endmode
# 1680 x 1050 (51Hz)
startmode
mode_name:1680 x 1050
x_res:1680
y_res:1050
pixel_rate:92000
h_timings:160,188,82,1680,82,0
v_timings:3,21,0,1050,0,1
sync_pol:0
endmode
# 1680 x 1050 (75Hz)
startmode
mode_name:1680 x 1050
x_res:1680
y_res:1050
pixel_rate:132000
h_timings:166,90,96,1680,96,0
v_timings:3,32,0,1050,0,3
sync_pol:0
endmode
Save the file once you have finished - to test it drag the new file to the monitor icon on the iconbar and select your new mode(s) from the menu. If you have done it right it will work - if you haven't it won't, so go back and check it again. Note that these modes will NOT work on a real machine, only on a VirtualAcorn. And just for fun I have written them from memory and havn't even tested them.

Hi!
I will need a new MDF as well, since I'm getting a nice new 24" widescreen TFT (Acer AL2416W) delivered in two weeks. It has a resolution of 1920 by 1200 pixels. :-)

Take the example above and alter each reference to the horizontal or vertical resolutions to match what you need.
So change each 1280 to be 1920
Change each 1050 to be 1200
e.g.
# 1920 x 1200 (30Hz)
startmode
mode_name:1920 x 1200
x_res:1920
y_res:1200
pixel_rate:54000
h_timings:166,90,96,1920,96,0
v_timings:3,32,0,1200,0,3
sync_pol:0
endmode
Do the same for each of the three mode definitions.

Okay, I tried it by altering the modes, but this way the horizontal frequency (refresh rate) drops below the monitor's minimum of 49 Hz.

OK - in that case take a copy of the existing 1600x1200 modes and try altering them instead.
