A colleague has reported the following 'funny' on his VA RPC-SE machine:

When saving a file within VA I end up with a minimum of 2 files of the same name, one as a text file showing as 0kb and one as a data file with the correct size. On the windows side the files show as <Name>,<type> and <Name>,ffd. When I open the <type> file the content shows up as it should, but if I delete the data <ffd> - file the <type> file will show as blank.

I'm suspecting that this is a macintosh- like symptom and wonder if it's beencaused by a key combination pressed accidentally?

How can we get his VA back to normal.

Hi, sorry you are having a problem. This isn't a problem that I can remember seeing before, so:

What version of Windows are you using?
Which RISC OS apps show the fault?
Are you saving the file to a HostFS drive?
If so, does the fault happen if you save to a RAM disc?

also...

What changes have you made to RISC OS recently?
Is the VirtualRPC up to date with the latest updates from the downloads section of the VirtualAcorn website?

I have just had another thought:

With VirtualRPC running in a window go to the Tools menu along the top of the VirtualRPC window and click on Options. Now open the HostFS Extensions tab and see if all the file mappings are present. It's possible that the HostFS extensions list has got damaged. If the list is empty then get a replacement from http://www.virtualacorn.co.uk/dloadpage/betautil.htm
