Problems that cause VirtualRPC and RISC OS to run very slowly

If you have an entry level notebook with an AMD E processor RISC OS can run slowly unless its using 16 million colours. By default RISC OS uses 32,000 colours, try changing this to 16 million colours. If that helps make this change permanent from the !Boot Configuration window by double clicking on !Boot.

Secondly you may have enabled Windows 98/ME Compatibility mode to unlock VirtualRPC but forgotten to disable it afterwards.

  • Right click on your VirtualRPC Shortcut on the Windows desktop.
  • Then click on Properties from the menu.
  • The VirtualRPC application Properties window will open.
  • Click on the Compatibility tab.
  • Untick the Run this Program in compatibility mode for: button.
  • Click on Apply then on OK.
