Reading a RISC OS format Hard disc

RISC OS computers used a number of different types of hard discs with different interfaces over the years. Early generation machines (A3x0, A4x0, A540, A3000) used either ST-506 or SCSI. Later first generation machines (A5000, A4000, A30x0) used IDE hard discs. All second generation machines (RiscPC, A7000, A7000+) also used IDE hard discs. All of the RISC OS computers made by other companies after Acorn Computers ceased trading (Microdigital, RiscSation, Castle Technology) also used IDE disc drives.

The only way that an Acorn format ST-506 or SCSI drive can be read is with a genuine Acorn computer fitted with the correct hardware. However it is possible to read an Acorn format IDE disc using Linux with the correct drivers.
