Installing Sibelius

The RISC OS versions of Sibelius include a copy protection system that can make installation very difficult. You will need a PC with a 32bit version of Windows and an internal floppy disc drive to install Sibelius. Once a copy of Sibelius has been installed inside a VirtualRPC it will not need to be reinstalled as you can move the entire VirtualRPC (and take a backup of it) with Sibelius inside.

The first copy protection problem is that the Sibelius installer writes a couple of bytes of information to the catalogue track on the hard disc using the RISC OS filecore. This means that Sibelius will not work if it's installed to a non filecore filing system, such as HostFS, as it cannot write the bytes. However Sibelius can be installed the emulated IDE hard disc included with VirtualRPC. The second copy protection problem is that most Sibelius installer discs don't actually contain a copy of Sibelius. When Sibelius is installed it is moved (not copied) from the installation floppy disc to the computer's hard disc. If you want to install Sibelius on a different computer it must be moved back to the floppy disc using the installer, this prevents it being installed on more than one computer.
