Optical discs (CD or DVD)

Note: If you are trying to read an Acorn format data DVD then you need to be running RISC OS 4.39 or later, you cannot read these discs on RISC OS 4.02. If you have removed the atapicd.dll component from VirtualRPC because of a problem you will need to use the method described in this support article to read a CD.

Firstly make sure that the CD/DVD can be read on a different computer. Sometimes writable CDs or DVDs do fail after only a couple of years (especially those that use dark purple dye). If the disc does work in a different computer check that it can be read by Windows on the same PC as VirtualAcorn.

Assuming that the disc has passed both the above tests it's reasonable to assume that the disc itself is fine and that the problem lies with VirtualRPC or RISC OS. There is more information on problems with CDs in this support article
